Scopus Adds 600 Preselected Titles
Edited by Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 03/15/2008
Scopus is adding 600 new titles recommended by its users to its database of 15,000 peer-reviewed journals. “We believe the best way to identify relevant and high-quality content is to work closely with the scientific community,” said Scopus's Niels Weertman. “On the basis of the titles they suggest and their evaluation of importance, relevance, and quality, Scopus can decide what sources to include.”
In total, the company said that more than 1700 titles were put forward by librarians and researchers. All suggested titles were evaluated by librarians and researchers on the independent Content Selection & Advisory Board. The 600 titles will be added to Scopus in the course of 2009 and made available at no extra cost. One-third of the new titles are in the social sciences and one fifth originate in Central and South America.
