Book News: PW Names Perseus Publisher of the Year

by Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 12/11/2007 6:25:00 AM

Publishers Weekly has named the Perseus Books Group its Publisher of the Year. Although the independent publisher launched in the mid 1990s through millionaire investor Frank Pearl, “it’s been in the last 18 months that the company, through a series of high-profile acquisitions, has solidified its place among the industry’s elite,” PW said. In that time period, Perseus has taken on 124 publishing contracts left in limbo by the bankruptcy of Publishers Group West, as well as purchasing the Avalon Publishing Group.
