The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has deemed EOS International's EOS.Web OPAC as “handicap accessible,” pursuant to the agency's Section 508 requirements. “The EOS.Web OPAC was created to help libraries and their patrons access information easily and efficiently,” said Tony Saadat, EOS CEO. “Certifying the OPAC as Section 508–compliant ensures that regardless of any impediments caused by a user's health or physical ability, they have full and unfettered access to a library's information.”

Section 508 of the DOT's regulations establishes access and provisioning requirements for electronic and information technology developed, maintained, procured, or used by the government. Section 508 standards cover a full range of electronic and information technologies, including products used for communication, duplication, computing, storage, presentation, control, transport, and production.

“These provisions were enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals. Certification of the EOS.Web OPAC allows government agencies and departments to purchase and use EOS.Web secure in the knowledge that federal standards for accessibility are met,” the vendor said.
