Gwen Alexander has been selected as the new Dean of the Emporia State University School of Library and Information Management, KS. She most recently served as Associate Dean of University Libraries at Wichita State University, KS.

Kenneth Crews, Director of the Copyright Management Center at Indiana University, Bloomington, will become Director of Columbia University’s new Copyright Advisory Office, effective January 1, 2008.

Karen Brown Letarte has been appointed Director of the American Librarian Association’s Office for Diversity, effective September 4, 2007. She was Interim Head, Metadata and Cataloging, North Carolina State University Libraries, Raleigh.

Erica MacCreaigh has been appointed Senior Consultant with Institutional Library Services at the Colorado State Library, Colorado Department of Education, Denver, responsible for nine Department of Corrections facilities statewide. She most recently was Coordinator of Outreach Services for the Arapahoe Library District, Englewood, CO.

Gail Parsons has been named Head of the Hoyt Public Library, the main branch of the Public Libraries of Saginaw, MI. She began her career at the library 25 years ago. She recently completed her bachelor’s degree and will receive an MLS from Wayne State University, Detroit, in 2008.

Roger Pearson has been appointed Interim Librarian, Yolo County Library, Woodland, CA. Pearson retired as head of the Sonoma County Library, Santa Rosa, CA, in 2001. Since then, he has served as Interim Director at several California public library systems.

Julie Rothenfluh is now Deputy Director, Naperville Public Library (NPL), IL. She was Manager of the 95th Street Library, the largest of NPL’s three facilities.

Regina Stemmer has been appointed Chief of Neighborhood Libraries at Houston Public Library (HPL), TX. A 21-year veteran of HPL, she took on the role of Acting North District Coordinator in October 2006.

Obituary

James Bryan III, former Director of the Newark Public Library, NJ, and Past President of the American Library Association (1963–64), died May 10 in Peterborough, NH, at age 97. He began his career at the District of Columbia Public Library and was appointed Chief Librarian of what is now the Easton Area Public Library, PA, in his hometown. From there he became Head of the Adult Lending Department of the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh, then Assistant Director, and later Director at Newark until his retirement in 1972.

Dorothy Mae Naughton, Director of the Waukesha Public Library (WPL), WI, from 1975 to 1984, has died at the age of 87. Naughton received a special service award from the Wisconsin Library Association for defending the customer’s right to confidentiality. She worked at the Des Moines Public Library and was Director of the Lake Geneva Public Library, WI, before coming to WPL.

Mary Rogus, Director of Adult Services, Green Hills Public Library, Palos Hills, IL, has died. She spent more than 25 years in the profession, also serving patrons at Flossmore Public Library, IL, as Director of Technical Services, and at Frankford Public Library, IL, as Director of Children’s Services.

Lucile Wagner, longtime Kansas Librarian, died May 9. She was Administrator of the Iola Public Library (IPL) from 1958 until her retirement in 1978 and concurrently was Director of the Southeast Kansas Regional Library System from its inception in the mid-1960s until 1978. She worked on a part-time basis well into the 1990s.
