EBSCO Buys ABC-CLIO Databases

By Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 7/15/2007

EBSCO is branching out: the company June 15 announced it had acquired ABC-CLIO's top databases, Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life, and will distribute eight additional premiere files. “With this partnership, over 1.3 million citations and abstracts, over 600,000 full-text links, and hundreds of thousands of full-text journals will be at the fingertips of researchers around the world,” said Ron Boehn, ABC-CLIO's CEO.

The other award-winning databases now on EBSCO areWorld History: The Modern Era; World History: Ancient and Medieval Eras; World Geography: Understanding a Changing World; American History: American Government; State Geography; Issues: Understanding Controversy and Society; United States at War: Understanding Conflict and Society; and History Reference Online.

Additionally, EBSCO has announced the release of Small Engine Repair Reference Center (SERRC), which uses “thousands of detailed illustrations and photos making it possible to safely service small engines.” Similar to the vendor's other do-it-yourself offerings, such as Home Improvement Reference Center, SERRC provides the reliable information required to perform a variety of tasks, including routine maintenance or more extensive repairs involving engine and transmission disassembly. It covers smaller engines like those for lawn mowers, tractors, snow blowers, tillers, and generators as well as larger ones for motorcycles, ATVs, marine/boat motors, personal watercraft, and snowmobiles.
