In CA, Mielke Tapped as Interim Head of LSSI-Managed System

-- Library Journal, 5/8/2007

Linda Mielke, who left her job as CEO of the Indianapolis–Marion County Public Library in January (see News, LJ 2/1/07, p. 18), is now heading the three-branch Shasta Public Libraries, formerly the Shasta County Public Library, managed by Library Systems & Services LLC (LSSI). She had been hired as a senior manager for LSSI but was tapped as interim director as LSSI searches to fill the permanent position. Last year, with library governance slated to change from the county to the city and with a new main building scheduled to open, the city hired LSSI.

The new flagship Redding Library is, at 55,000 feet, twice the size of its predecessor and came with a opening day collection. Circulation has more than doubled, which has caused some challenges; some RFID tags malfunctioned in the library's sorter as books were returned, according to the Record-Searchlight.
