Alicia Antone has been promoted to Director of Broward County Library’s African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Antone previously was the Assistant Director of the library.

Colleen Carney is the new Director of the York County Library, Rock Hill, SC, replacing David Lyon, who retired. She had been Director of the Berkeley County Library, Moncks Corner, SC, since 1996.

David Gleim has been named Dean of Libraries at South Dakota State University, Brookings, effective July 1, 2007. He currently holds the position of Dean of Auraria Library, the shared facility for the Community College of Denver, the Metropolitan State College of Denver, and the University of Colorado at Denver.

David Goble has been named South Carolina State Librarian. He most recently was Dean of Libraries at Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, SC. He is the Immediate Past President of the Metrolina Library Association, a multitype library organization representing 12 counties in North and South Carolina.

Jacque Meriam is the new Director of the Merced County Library, CA. She most recently was County Librarian of the Mariposa County Library, CA.

Bernie Sloan, Senior Library Information Systems Consultant at the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), Champaign, retired April 1 after 30 years of service. He was hired by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign library in 1977 to automate the card catalog and remained dedicated to resource sharing in its many subsequent incarnations. Sloan was awarded the Illinois Library Association’s Hugh Atkinson Award in 1996.

Linda Springer has been appointed Bureau Chief for the California State Library (CSL), overseeing California history, government publications, Witkin Law Library, State Information and Reference Center, Special Collections, Sutro Library, Technical Services, and Braille and Talking Book Library. She was Acting Bureau Chief since November 2006 and before that CSL’s Deputy Bond Act Manager in the Office of Library Construction.

Nicolle Steffen has been appointed Director of the Library Research Service (LRS) at the Colorado State Library. Steffen was associate director of LRS since 2001. She succeeds Keith Curry Lance, who recently retired after 22 years.
