Netflix Deal? Brooklyn Public Library Says Not So Fast

-- Library Journal, 3/26/2007

A caffeinated New York Post report Friday that the Brooklyn Public Library was negotiating with Netflix to deliver DVDs and videos to library card holders rocketed around the Internet, but the library is far from a deal. Rather, library spokesman Jason Carey told LJ that the idea of expanding the library's home delivery service was still in its infancy: "The delivery systems/Netflix idea could expand our ability serve communities in new and innovative ways."

New director Dionne Mack-Harvin discussed a home delivery concept at a press conference last week, while the Post quoted staffer John Vitali as saying the library wants to "use Netflix as the delivery mechanism." Carey said, "I know John expressed the concept to them using Netflix as an example." Should a Netflix deal actually materialize, it would be the first ever with a library. A Netflix spokesman told the Post that he knew nothing about a potential deal with the library.
