Sheila Anderson has been appointed Director of the Seymour Public Library District, Auburn, NY, succeeding Stephen Erskine, who is retiring after 36 years. Anderson was most recently Director of the Dover Public Library, DE.

Peter Brantley has been appointed Executive Director of the Digital Library Federation, Washington, DC. Brantley previously was Director of Strategic Technology for Academic Information Systems at the University of California's Office of the President. He also served as Director of Technology for the California Digital Library.

Rebecca Graham will become Associate Librarian for Administrative Services at Harvard College, Cambridge, MA, effective July 1. Until then, Graham will be Associate Designate, a first for Harvard. Graham has been Special Assistant for Strategic Initiatives since April 2006; she joined Harvard in 2003 as Director of Library Operations at the Countway Library of Medicine.

Elizabeth Marcus Wolfe is the new Director of the Thayer Public Library, Braintree, MA. She succeeds David Hinkley, who left last September to become Director of the Montclair Public Library, NJ. Wolfe previously was Director of the Marlborough Public Library, MA.

Obituary

Mary Daume, Director of the Monroe County Library System, MI, from 1947 to 1976, died on October 28 at the age of 93. Daume was 1972–73 President of the Michigan Library Association and a founding member of the Michigan Association of Media Educators. She was instrumental in the creation of the Raisin Valley Library System, in southern Michigan, a forerunner to the current Woodlands Library Cooperative, which serves 11 counties.

Harold Hacker, director from 1954 to 1978 of the Rochester Public Library, NY, which later became part of Monroe County Library System (MCLS), has died. He was 90. Hacker was instrumental in bringing all of the town libraries in Monroe County on board to form MCLS. He also was influential in the founding of the Rochester Regional Library Council.

Ridley Kessler, retired Government Documents Librarian at the University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill, died on January 11. Kessler retired from UNC in 2003 after 33 years of service. He served as the Regional Depository Librarian for federal documents for the state of North Carolina for more than 25 years.

Margaret Otto, 16th Librarian of Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, died at age 69 on December 10. In 1979, she became the first woman to lead the Dartmouth College Library. During her tenure, Otto supported a number of major library building projects and the early adoption of electronic resources and services. She also was employed from 1964 to 1979 by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Libraries, Cambridge.

Peg Rondeau, retired Public Library Director, died December 21 at the age of 92. Rondeau was Director of the Scarsdale Public Library, NY, during the 1960s and in the 1970s directed the New Canaan Public Library, CT.

Phyllis Young, whose career with the County of Los Angeles Public Library (CoLAPL) spanned 35 Years, died of heart failure on November 15. Young was the first Central Collection Development Coordinator for CoLAPL. At the time of her retirement in March 2006, Young was a Regional Administrator. Since retirement, she had been assisting the county librarian in the recruitment and mentoring of new librarians.
