IFLA Announces International Marketing Awards
-- Library Journal, 9/8/2006
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions has announced its International Marketing Awards. The tactics used were hardly site-specific. In first place was Cindy van Kranenburg from the public library of Spijkenisse, near Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, who sent non-users postcards with the slogan "We miss you" (in Dutch: "Wij missen u"). The first-place winner gained a trip to the 2006 IFLA General Conference in Seoul, Korea, and $1,000 to do more marketing. In second place was Suzanne Payette, president of the public libraries of Québec, who offered sustainable promotion material like reusable shopping bags under the slogan "Follow the Stream" (in French: "Suivez le courant") during the Week of the Public Libraries of Québec in Fall 2005. In third place was Óscar Arroyo Ortega, of the Regional Library Service of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain for a campaign called "Public Libraries: No need to knock!" (in Spanish: "Biblioteca Pública, pasa sin llamar"), with a traveling exhibition about how libraries function and serve the public.
