Joseph Accardi has retired as Dean of Resources for the Learning Division of Harper College, Palatine, IL, after a 33-year career in academic and public libraries. He was a book reviewer for Library Journal, 1988–2005.

Brenda Bailey-Hainer has become Executive Director of BCR (Bibliographic Center for Research), Aurora, CO. Bailey-Hainer had been Director of Networking and Resource Sharing at the Colorado State Library since 1999, responsible for the Colorado Virtual Library, AskColorado, and other programs. She is a 2002 Library Journal Mover & Shaker.

Jennifer Beard has been appointed City Librarian, Winter Haven Public Library, FL. She has served as Interim Library Director for the past six months. Beard is working on an MLIS degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa.

Steven Bowers has been appointed Director of the Detroit Area Library Network (DALNET), hosted at Wayne State University, Detroit. Bowers has been at Wayne State since 2005, most recently serving as Interim Director of DALNET.

Kathleen Folger is the new Electronic Resources Officer for the University Library, University of Michigan (UM), Ann Arbor. She had been serving as UM’s Economics and Public Policy Librarian and Coordinator of the Executive Research Service.

Patricia French is the new Collection Development and Technical Services Manager at Multnomah County Library, Portland, OR. She most recently was Head of the Serials Department, University of California, Davis.

Lucy Gangone has been appointed Director, Sumter County Library System, Sumterville, FL. She most recently was Assistant Director at the Hartford Public Library, CT.

Dwain Gordon has been named Associate Director for Library Development and Services at the Arkansas State Library, Little Rock. He previously was Manager of Youth Collections at the Central Arkansas Library System, Little Rock.

Mark Gretchen is the new Assistant Director for Public Services at San Antonio Public Library. He served as Director of Community Services for the city of Seguin, TX, overseeing the library and other city departments.

Jack Hicks has retired as Director, Deerfield Public Library, IL. He devoted 34 years of service to the library, the last 16 as Director.

Tom Johnson, Library Director at the Rancho Mirage Public Library, CA, retired August 11. He launched the city’s first public library in January 1996, located in a shopping center. A new 37,000 square foot facility opened this past January.

Marilee Marrero has been appointed Regional Administrator for the Central Region of the County of Los Angeles Public Library, overseeing 18 branches. Marrero joined the library in 1977.

Sharon Morris has assumed the position of Technology and Digital Initiatives Consultant at the Colorado State Library, Denver. She had been the AskColorado Coordinator since 2003.

Karen Saunders has been appointed City Librarian for the City of Santa Clara, CA. She has served as Acting City Librarian during the past 18 months and has worked at the library since 1976.

Judith Schavrien, Deputy Director at Yonkers Public Library, NY, is retiring after 36 years of service. She began her career in 1969 and was appointed to her current position in 2002.

Virginia Stanley, formerly Assistant Director, Academic and Library Marketing at HarperCollins Publishers, has been promoted to Director. Stanley is known for coordinating all-library author tours and is a 2002 Library Journal Mover & Shaker.

Jan Vaughn is the new Assistant Library Director at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, OH. He previously was the library’s Public Relations Coordinator and will continue performing those duties.
