SirsiDynix Bestows Five Building Better Communities Awards

By Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 8/15/2006

SirsiDynix has tapped five U.S. and Canadian libraries as the winners of this year’s Building Better Communities Awards, which honor libraries “for creative and enterprising uses of technology to improve their user communities.” The public and academic winners, which receive $10,000 apiece, are: Calgary Public Library, Alta.; Delaware County Community College, Media, PA; Hamilton Public Library, Ont.; Hancock County Library System, Bay St. Louis, MS; and INFOhio, Columbus. Their accomplishments include technology for special needs and at-risk users (Calgary), PDAs for nursing students (Delaware), and a statewide K–12 portal (INFOhio). The winning facilities were winnowed down from roughly 130 contenders representing public, academic, K–12, state, and special libraries of all sizes.
