Turning “Shhh” into Shizzle
By Staff -- Library Journal, 8/15/2006
When the Farmington Public Library (FPL), NM, recruits librarians, it likes to tell them, “This is not your mother's library.” That's why the library's graphic artist adapted retro-but-hip clip art for FPL's outreach campaign, first for job ads and, later, for bumper stickers, posters, and temporary tattoos prior to the state library conference last April. Now the library foundation has gone on the web, selling “Shhh” themed merchandise at www.cafepress.com/fplfoundation. “We wanted her to be old-fashioned looking, but we wanted her to look hot,” says library administrator Karen McPheeters.
