-- Library Journal, 08/02/2006

The U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science has released a report on libraries and health information provision, taking off from the forum held in May for the NCLIS Health Information Awards for Libraries. The report details information submitted by applicants for the awards, including program descriptions and contact information for the finalists and the state winners. The report also includes a summary of the trends and issues reported in the literature in two special issues of Library Trends (2004 and 2005) and a supplement in the Journal of the Medical Library Association (2005), which addresses how libraries can and do serve community health needs. Those include outreach, partnerships, health literacy, and web initiatives.
