Accreditation Actions Posted; Conditional Status for Buffalo
-- Library Journal, 7/24/2006
The Committee on Accreditation (COA) of the American Library Association (ALA) has announced accreditation actions taken at the recent 2006 ALA annual conference. COA has granted conditional accreditation to the Master of Library Science offered at the School of Informatics, State University of New York at Buffalo. The next program review will be no later than spring 2009. The COA announcement is unrelated to the dissolution of UB’s School of Informatics; the Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS) will become part of the Graduate School of Education beginning next fall. According to a UB statement, “The DLIS faculty has already begun meeting to develop a plan for addressing the issues identified by the COA, and Interim Dean Lucinda Finley has pledged her full and enthusiastic support for the planning process.”
COA will continue the accreditation of the following graduate programs leading to the first professional degree in library and information studies, with the next program review scheduled for 2013: Master of Library and Information Studies offered by the School of Information Studies, University of Alberta, Edmonton; Master of Library Science offered by the College of Information Studies, University of Maryland, College Park; Master of Science offered by the School of Library and Information Sciences, University of North Texas, Denton; and Master of Library and Information Science offered by the School of Information Sciences, University of Pittsburgh.
