Joyce Gunn, Manager of two branches in the Contra Costa Library System, Pleasant Hill, CA, has retired. Since 1991, she managed the San Ramon Library. More recently, she added Dougherty Station Library to her management duties. Her librarian career spans 38 years.
Thomas Hickerson is appointed to a five-year term as Director of Information Resources at the University of Calgary, Alta., effective August 1. He is Associate University Librarian for Information Technologies and Special Collections and Director of the Division of Digital Library and Information Technologies at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.
Jeffrey Martin is named Head of the South Asia Division at the Hatcher Graduate Library’s Area Programs Libraries, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Martin formerly was Special Collections Librarian at the Cleveland Public Library.
Susan Peterson is the new CEO of Blackwell North America. Peterson has held senior executive roles at Lightning Source and Baker & Taylor (B&T), serving as Vice President of Digital Business and Publisher Digital Business at B&T from 2002 to 2005.
Mary Rasenberger has been named Director of Program Management for the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program at the Library of Congress (LC). She joined LC in 1992 as a Policy Planning Adviser in the U.S. Copyright Office, most recently in the area for special programs. Before that, she was in private legal practice.
Mark Sandler has been appointed Director of the Center for Library Initiatives of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), effective July 17. CIC is the academic consortium of the Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago. Sandler currently serves as University Library Collection Development Officer for the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Rick Teichert is the new Deputy Director of Administration at the Sacramento Public Library, CA, handling finance, facilities, human resources, and information technology functions. Most recently, Teichert served as Chief Operations Officer, Children and Families Commission of Orange County, Irvine, CA.
Obituary
Mary Jane Anderson, former Executive Director of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, has died. Anderson lead ALSC from 1974 to 1982 and was Editor of the ALSC journal from 1971 to 1974. She most recently was Director of the Maud Preston Palenkse Memorial Library, St. Joseph, MI, from 1998 to 1999.
