New WorldCat Selection Service
By Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 6/15/2006
OCLC and Cornell University are working in tandem on a WorldCat Selection service that they attest “will help libraries save time and money by streamlining the selection and ordering process for new library materials and delivering the corresponding WorldCat records.” The service will corral information from multiple vendors so library staff can view them in one place for ordering and incorporate corresponding WorldCat records into their systems early, while their ownership records are simultaneously added to WorldCat. The system is based on Cornell’s Integrated Tool for Selection and Ordering, which the school says has automated and simplified its materials acquisition process so profoundly that it saves $100,000 a year in staff costs.
