Shirley Barron is the new Library Director at the Dennis Memorial Library Association, MA. She recently retired from her job as Director of the Bedford Public Library, NH.
Yolanda Cooper has been appointed Deputy University Librarian at the University of Miami, FL. She previously was Associate University Librarian for Organ­izational Development at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
John Ellison, Associate Professor in the Department of Library and Information Studies, University at Buffalo, NY, will become the next Director of the informatics programs within Buffalo’s School of Informatics. He replaces Neil Yerkey, who is retiring at the end of this academic year. Ellison also will be involved with establishing a new undergraduate program in informatics.
Gretchen Mitchell has been named Administrative Supervisor, Main Library, Jacksonville Public Library, FL, overseeing operation of the 300,000 square foot facility that opened earlier this year. Previously, she was Administrative Supervisor for the seven branch libraries.
Bruce James, Public Printer of the United States and Head of the U.S. Government Printing Office in Washington, DC, has announced his retirement; he will depart when his replacement is chosen. He became Public Printer in 2002 at the request of President Bush. James is former President of Printing Industries of California, a trade association for more than 7000 printing firms.
Sarah Pritchard has been appointed Charles Deering McCormick University Librarian at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, effective September 1. She will oversee five libraries on the Evanston campus and one in downtown Chicago, as well as the Northwestern University Press. She currently is University Librarian, University of California–Santa Barbara.
Melinda Raine is now Associate University Librarian for Public Services and Programs at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA. She previously was Coordinator of Information Services at the university.
Elizabeth Speigle has been named Assistant Director, Newport News Library System, VA. She has held positions in the Santa Ana Public Library and Anaheim Public Library, both located in California.
Raymond von Dran, Dean of the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University, NY, since 1995, will step down in August 2007 and remain a professor in the school. He plans to help the school create commercial spin-offs from its research and development work and assist with fundraising. He previously was dean of the information schools at Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, and University of North Texas, Denton.
