TN Library Outsourcing Possibility on Hold

A court has blocked the Jackson-Madison County Library Board from further discussing the privatization of library management until a judge rules that the board has jurisdiction to do so, according to the Jackson Sun. A court hearing will be held May 5. The board met April 20 to hear community input on proposals from two private firms and current library management. While the Sun has endorsed bidder LSSI, most people who commented to the board opposed contracting with a private firm. County Commissioner Bart Swift commented, according to the Sun, "One of my fellow commissioners says it's hard to unspread peanut butter, and so by that note, it's why we had a special meeting to vote and to stop it and try to put it on hold and see what is truly right."
