Wireless RFID from Checkpoint

By Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 5/1/2006

Checkpoint Systems claims that the installation of its Intelligent Library System at the Prairie Trails Public Library, Burbank, IL, is the nation’s first totally wireless RFID system. Checkpoint says that when planning the installation, the “logistical setup of the library was such that it was going to be difficult to configure the ILS in the conventional manner,” which led the vendor to a wireless technology expert who designed the arrangement.

Losing the weave of cables throughout the building allows the staff to place the mobile self-check stations wherever needed. Sheri Starr, the library’s assistant director and automation manager, said, “[The system] was smoothly installed, easy to operate, and very efficiently integrated with our library circulation system.”
