Checkpoint Systems claims that the installation of its Intelligent Library System (ILS) at the Prairie Trails Public Library, Burbank, IL, is the nation's first totally wireless RFID system. Checkpoint says that when planning the installation, the "logistical set-up of the library was such that it was going to be difficult to configure the ILS in the conventional manner," which lead the vendor to a wireless technology expert, who designed the set-up. Losing the weave of cables running throughout the building allows the staff to place the mobile self-check stations wherever needed. Sheri Starr, the library's assistant director and automation manager said, "[the] ILS was smoothly installed, easy to operate, and very efficiently integrated with our library circulation system."
