New Push for ALA Attendance in New Orleans: Free Booze, Beads, Beignets
-- Library Journal, 4/1/2006
After the record attendance last week at the Public Library Association conference in Boston raised questions about whether librarians would visit Katrina-recovering New Orleans for the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in June, ALA and the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau have teamed up to offer some extra carrots. All attendees, including those who have already registered, will get a free “Welcome Pack” that includes strings of Mardi Gras beads, a coupon for free beignets at the legendary Café Du Monde, and a coupon for free drinks during a “pub crawl” through the French Quarter. Members of the Social Responsibilities Round Table will lead the pub crawl, which will set off at 1 a.m., Sunday June 25, from The Rawhide, 740 Burgundy Street. Note: drinks will be available only during that pub crawl.
