Castro To Visit ALA Offices

Following the embarrassing episode at the recent American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in which President’s Program guest speaker Andrei Codrescu slammed the organization’s spineless posture toward the plight of Cuban librarians, ALA has responded by inviting aging Cuban strongman Fidel Castro to a pre-conference meeting at its Chicago headquarters. “Who better to represent Cuban interests than El Jefe himself,” ALA President Michael Gorman said, “and besides, he’ll bring us good cigars.” ALA is rolling out the red carpet for Castro, who will be treated to a Cubs game and a boat ride.
