-- Library Journal, 04/01/2006

The American Library Association (ALA) web site, much criticized for its design, will be no more as of Monday. ALA, in consultation with representatives of the Library Information and Technology Association (LITA), has decided to set up a user-contributed wiki. “Let’s face it,” incoming ALA president Leslie Burger declared. “Librarians are good at organizing information. Once we put our 60,000 members to work, we’ll have a better web site in no time.” Asked whether the savings would allow ALA to rescind the planned dues increase, Burger replied, “No.” She did indicate that the organization may outsource some management functions to the nation of Dubai.
