The Playaway, the first self-playing digital audio player, is now being offered by several public libraries. Carlos Latimer, director of the Cleveland Public Library's AV department, told LJ that the Playaway, which contains an imbedded digital file, appeals to older patrons who haven't embraced the libraries more complicated downloadable audio offerings. Only a few dozen titles are available so far from the maker, Findaway World, and Cleveland PL has purchased 15 copies each of the 27 titles. The Playaway, about the size of a deck of cards, comes with earbud headphones, but patrons can also use their own.
