Barbie the Librarian?

By Staff -- Library Journal, 9/1/2005

Barbie the LibrarianMaybe it's because kids like their librarians and have never met any architects. And maybe it's because only parents know how much librarians earn. For whatever reason, a recent poll at the Barbie.com web site regarding a new career for Barbie showed that kids much more readily imagined Barbie as a librarian—or cop—than did their parents.

The parents, well, they prefer architecture (Bilbao Barbie?). The results as of early August showed 37 percent of kids voting for librarian, 37 percent for policewoman, and 25 percent for architect, while 93 percent of parents voted for architect, three percent for librarian, and two percent for policewoman. What would Barbie the Librarian look like? LJ asked an illustrator to take a crack at it.
