Joint PL/Academic Facility Open in Seminole

-- Library Journal, 8/21/2003

Another public/academic joint use library has opened, this time in Seminole, FL. The new, 52,000 square foot facility is shared by the Seminole Community Library (SCL) and St. Petersburg College (SPC), and open to any member of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative. The two-story facility, located on the SPC campus and across the street from the former library, opened August 10. In addition to conference, study, community, and classrooms, the building features an art gallery, Starbucks cafe, a teenage "Zone," and a panoramic view of woods and ponds.

SPC will be responsible for maintenance, security, and utilities fees. It also is providing the technology. The city is in charge of the library's daily operations and personnel, with SCL Director Mike Bryan in charge of the facility. SCL's existing collections and furnishings have been transferred to the new building, which will increase hours when college is in session.
