by Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 6/15/2003
The Library of Congress's (LC) Veterans History Project has mounted 21 digitized collections of materials on its web site (www.loc.gov/vets). The project preserves oral histories and documentary materials about American combat veterans from World War I through the Persian Gulf wars. Civilians who served on the home front building planes, munitions, and more, also are included in the archive. According to LC, this first crop of personal recollections will be joined by numerous others gleaned from the more than 7000 submissions from veterans and others. Since the program began, it has partnered with more than 670 national and local organizations representing the military community, veterans and civic groups, cultural and historical organizations, and educational institutions.
