Vernon Express Check Out

Slick and quick, RFID self-check system loads on circulation module

by Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 3/1/2003

Vernon Library Supplies came to ALA with VECO: Vernon's Express Check-Out. VECO employs the company's RFID technology in a scanner setup that can be housed in a small standalone cabinet or in a countertop model. Quick and slick, the system features a simple interface, which is customizable, that can display information in as many as four languages. Up to 20 items can be checked out with a single swipe over the laser scanner.

The RFID tag placed inside each item also can separate holds and interlibrary loan materials belonging to other facilities as well as identifying shelf locations. Audio CDs and DVDs also can be tagged for self-checkout. The software loads onto the library's circulation module using the SIP2 protocol.
