Henderson To Retire In August

Staff -- Library Journal, 3/29/1999

Carol Henderson, executive director and mainstay of the American Library Association's (ALA) Washington Office, has announced her intent to retire this August, partly due to health-related reasons. She has held that post for five years and has been with ALA for 24 years. "It has been an immensely satisfying job," Henderson told LJDigital. "You feel like you're really doing good things for libraries." Henderson, age 60, said her legacy will be "to have gotten a few significant things done in a very changed and different political climate." She said she felt fortunate to have benefited from ALA's effort to bolster its lobbying resources, a very good staff, and thousands of library advocates around the country.
