Hate Filter Doesn't Work, Says "Yahoo Internet Life"

The recently launched HateFilter, a product of collaboration between the Anti-Defamation League and the parent company of the Cyber Patrol Internet filter, gets a skeptical review from the magazine Yahoo Internet Life. As Charles Pappas explains, "HateFilter blacklists hundreds of web sites that the ADL thinks are promoting hatred or hostility towards groups...on the basis of their religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or other immutable characteristics." The problem: the filter ignores some targets that arguably fit under the definition, like the Family Research Council, as well as clear candidates like neo-Nazi sites.
