Library of California Beginning Process to Unify Disparate Libraries
Staff -- Library Journal, 3/1/1999
Under a law that went into effect January 1, the Library of California -- a program distinct from the state library -- has begun an unprecedented project to link all public and private libraries across the state, reports the February 21 Sacramento Bee. While the slogan is "One library... 8000 doors," it may take three to five years before the program bears much fruit. Initially, the board is expected to devote some of the library's $5 million budget to expand lending between libraries across the state.
