Library Unions Strike at French National Library
Staff -- Library Journal, 2/12/1999
The five unions at France's troubled new National Library called a one-day strike last Friday to protest against management's slow response to attacks on two staffers last month, Reuters reported. The unions voted unanimously to block public entrances to the library, popularly known as the Tres Grande Bibliotheque ("Very Big Library"). Two women attendants were attacked January 24, when angry patrons stormed their way into the building after a long wait outside.
