New Endowed Chair for Univ. of Houston

Staff -- Library Journal, 2/12/1999

The University of Houston Libraries will hold a private ceremony February 11 to celebrate its first endowed position, the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Dean's Chair in the M.D. Anderson Library. Rockwell, whodeveloped the first Keogh and IRA plans for the Houston savings and loans industry, had already given $125,000 for special collections materials before making her $500,000 donation for the endowed chair. The first recipient of the chair will be UH Dean of Libraries Dana Rooks. Dean Rooks said the endowment helps the library in two ways: "It helpsestablish the library as a primary focal point of the university's academicmission, and it is really going to help us recruit the very best leadership for the library in the future."
