SLD Releases Fourth Wave of E-rate Funding Letters

Staff -- Library Journal, 1/25/1999

The Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) of the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) issued about 4500 E-rate funding commitment decision letters on January 21, allocating more than $211 million. This, the largest wave to date, brings the total number of funding commitments to more than 13,000, allocating more than $427 million of the $1.9 billion available in the 1998 funding cycle. More than 85 percent of the funds committed in this wave were sent to schools and libraries eligible for discounts of 80 percent or more. Two more waves, expected before the end of January, are expected to respond to the bulk of the applications.
