SLC Merger Complete; New SLD Releases New Round of E-Rate Letters
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/18/1999
The Schools and Libraries Corp. (SLC) and the Rural Health Care Corporation (RHCC) have merged with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), effective January 1. Thus, SLC is now known as the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) of the USAC. One entity instead of three is now responsible for administering the telecommunications universal service programs for the Federal Communications Commission. Program participants can expect the same or better service under the merged entity, the SLC says. The new entity mailed an additional 1,346 letters on January 14 to libraries, awarding E-rate discounts totaling just under $8 million dollars, reports the American Library Association.
