Library/Staffer Settle Wrongful-termination Suit
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/18/1999
A wrongful-termination suit filed by a former administrative assistant against the Blanchard Community Library, Santa Paula, CA, in October 1997 has been settled. Though neither side has admitted any wrongdoing, the library has agreed to pay $30,000 to plaintiff Cynthia Chamberlain, who in turn will drop a sexual harassment complaint filed with the state. According to press reports, Chamberlain claimed the library's board failed to notify her of its termination hearing, as well as denied her a public hearing, and other illegal actions. She also asserts she was targeted for divulging that a high-ranking librarian allegedly was using the library's computers to access netporn.
