U.S. Rep. McHale Donates Papers to Muhlenberg College Library

Staff -- Library Journal, 1/18/1999

Paul McHale, who retired from the U.S. House of Representatives (D-PA) earlier this month, has donated his papers to the Muhlenberg College Library, Allentown. According to the Morning Call, the materials consist of 100 boxes of documents and 150 videotapes, which will be available for public scrutiny. The report quotes Muhlenberg's acting Library Director Linda Bowers as saying that the library has "cleared space on our shelves and we've hired a special-collections librarian." The selection apparently puzzled many who assumed that McHale would continue the tradition set by several of his predecessors by donating the papers to his alma mater, Lehigh University. He said, however, that he went with Muhlenberg because of his friendship with its president, Arthur Taylor.
