Lyman Steps Down As University Librarian at Cal-Berkeley
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/19/1998
Citing teaching as his "first love," Peter Lyman announced January 8 to his staff that he was stepping down from his post as University Librarian at the University of California, Berkeley. Lymon described his tenure as "an intellectually stimulating experience." He acknowledged that the difficult aspects of running the library since 1995, "the budget cuts...and the continuing erosion by inflation of the collection's budget buying power," were also major challenges. Lyman will teach at UC-Berkeley's School of Information Management and Systems where he will continue to conduct and publish research on the future of scholarly communication and the social impact of digital technologies. A search will commence shortly, with Lyman having been asked to stay on until July 1.
