The Tin Drum Returned to Oklahoma City's Library

Staff -- Library Journal, 1/19/1998

The Video Software Dealers Association has won a temporary injunction that will allow copies of the Academy Award-winning film The Tin Drum to be available once again in video stores and libraries in Oklahoma City. Police seized all copies of the tape from public outlets and even private homes in June 1997 on the basis that it was obscene. U.S. District Judge Ralph Thompson, however, has deemed that action illegal, saying that it was "prior restraint" of constitutionally protected material. The case is scheduled to go to trial later this year.
