Staff -- Library Journal, 1/14/1998
Stating simply that "it is time for fresh faces and new energy to step in and lead the library in the 21st century, " Cindy Pritzker has resigned her position as Chicago Public Library (CPL) Board president effective January 20. She was appointed in 1984 by then Mayor Harold Washington and was to serve until the year 2000. Pritzker is not severing all ties with CPL, however, as she will allegedly continue to run the foundation she created to support the library. CPL Commissioner Mary Dempsey told LJ Pritzker is the "guiding light of CPL and we're delighted she'll remains president of the foundation. " No candidates for a successor have been named by the board, which elects new officers.
