No Filtering Lawsuit in Orlando
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/5/1998
While a citizen's group has filed the first lawsuit to challenge the Internet filtering practices of the public library in Loudoun County (Leesburg) VA, the American Civil Liberties Union has backed off threats to sue the Orange County Public Library, Orlando, Fla. According to the Orlando Sentinel, a test by the ACLU of the library's Web Sense screening system prevented access to web sites of magazines like Hustler and Penthouse but did not screen fan club sites that had explicit photos. Library director Dorothy Field, who had requested that the system screen only hard-core pornography, said the system was working as intended, and was never billed as foolproof.
