UC Berkeley Names New University Librarian
Staff -- Library Journal, 2/26/2001
Pending the official approval of the Board of Regents, the UC Berkeley will name journalism professor Thomas C. Leonard as its new university librarian. Leonard is currently interim university librarian. He will take over for Jerry Lowell, who stepped down late last year for personal reasons. Leonard is a both a highly regarded historian and associate dean of the UC Berkeley school of journalism. One member of the UC Berkeley search committee said its decision to offer Leonard the position was due in part to encouragement by library personnel, who urged the committee to persuade Leonard to become a full-time candidate for the position.
