Lincoln Library Breaks Ground

Staff -- Library Journal, 2/19/2001

Illinois celebrated Lincoln's birthday, February 12, by breaking ground on the long-awaited Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield. Set for a 2002 opening, the 198,000-square-foot facility will house the state's archive of papers and memorabilia, which is the largest known collection of Lincoln's items. Illinois officials say the library will tell the whole story of Lincoln's life rather than just specific chapters dealing with the war and his assassination.
