San Diego Receives $5 Million for New Branch

Staff -- Library Journal, 1/29/2001

The San Diego Public Library is receiving a $5 million share of a larger $80 million gift to the San Diego Foundation, which will be applied toward the construction of a new Point Loma branch. According to the library, the new branch will be 26,000 square feet -- roughly five times the size of the existing building. The new building will also feature three public conference rooms, two seminar rooms, and seating for 240. Total cost of the project is $8 million, with the remainder of the funding coming from local authorities and the community. The building is scheduled to open in 2002. In addition, San Diego PL is also planning to expand and renovate the La Jolla branch.
