Kranich to 'Post': "We Need Libraries More Than Ever"
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/22/2001
"Do we need libraries anymore?" asked the Washington Post of ALA President Nancy Kranich in the newspaper's feature story that ran during the ALA's Midwinter Meeting in Washington. "We need libraries more than ever," said Kranich, citing the importance of bridging the digital divide, organizing information, and providing community. Librarians, she said, "are a great source for giving people just the information they need to make good decisions." The article also cites bookmobiles, cybermobiles, after-hours services, and the notion of the library as a secular shrine.
