Librarian Named to Humanities Council

Among the ten new members of the National Council on the Humanities named by President Clinton is a librarian. Betty G. Bengtson of Seattle has held the post of director of university libraries at the University of Washington since 1990. Previously, she was associated with the libraries at the University of Tennessee and Georgetown University. She is a former president of the Association of Research Libraries. The National Council on the Humanities is responsible for advising the Chair with respect to the policies, programs, and procedures necessary for the operation of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
