Dr. Laura Makes TV Critics' Worst List
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/8/2001
The jump from radio to television apparently was too far a hurdle for Dr. Laura Schlessinger, whose syndicated TV program was voted one of the ten worst of 2000 by a bevy of national TV critics polled by Electronic Media magazine. The conservative Schlessinger's move to television initially caused concern among librarians who feared she would find an even wider audience for her attacks on the American Library Association and the nation's libraries for their open access policies. The American public, however, didn't seem to care, and Dr. Laura's syndicated TV program was bumped to a 2 a.m. slot after a few months. The 54 critics who participated in the survey voted Dr. Laura the ninth worst show of last year, falling between the NBC sitcom Cursed, and MTV's Jackass.
