Minneapolis Employees Protest Library Internet Policy
Staff -- Library Journal, 2/21/2000
In the first major public protest by library staff against their library's Internet policy, 47 of approximately 140 staffers in the main library of the Minneapolis Public Library signed a letter to the local Star-Tribune saying they "feel harassed and intimidated by having to work in a public environment where we might, at any moment, be exposed to degrading or pornographic pictures." The letter called for use of filters on "terminals in high access areas of the library" and suggested that unfiltered terminals could be placed in more remote areas of the library. The library administration could not be reached for comment.
