Content Providers Form New "Copyright Assembly"
Staff -- Library Journal, 2/21/2000
A new "Copyright Assembly" of content providers concerned with Internet piracy was announced February 16 at a congressional hearing. USA Today reports that the group includes CBS, NBC, ABC/Disney, MGM, Paramount, Sony, Time Warner, Universal, the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, and an assortment of professional sports leagues. "We are deeply concerned about the future of creative works," said Jack Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America, citing "illegitimate intruders" on the Internet who "steal copyrighted works." It appears that this may be a successor to the Creative Incentive Coalitionâ?"an organization of content producers whose web site is no longer active.
